We are starting our third week in January, but we have been hard at work these past two weeks. The new year has brought us back to start with our Poetry Unit.
For the first week, we learned about Free Verse and Haiku Poetry. In addition, we identified poetic devices, such as Alliteration, Personification, Simile, Metaphor, Imagery, and Onomatopoeia. Furthermore, Haiku poetry challenged us to practice our syllables in order to follow the structure: 5, 7,5 syllables. It was fun having the opportunity to collaborate with partners and share our poetry with them.
This past week, we had the opportunity to learn two new types of poetry: Diamante (Diamond) and Concrete Poetry. Again, we had the opportunity to practice and follow the specific structure for each poem. Our classmates did a nice job at presenting great Diamante Poetry, as well as, their concrete poems.
We have one more week of Poetry, yet we can count on it being as exciting as the past two weeks.
Metacognition: In addition to your comment on the blog, please think about how Poetry has helped you to think in a creative and figurative way.
