Upon our arrival, we started reading Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. The book provided a deep understanding of friendship and acceptance towards others that are different. Through our reading of the text, we discovered the life of migrant workers in the 1930, which transpired during the Great Depression. Additionally, we were introduced to Lennie and George, both characters are depicted as imperfect yet demonstrate a profound friendship.
Mathematics, we focused on learning Multiplying Mixed Numbers. We practice problems by converting mixed numbers into improper fractions and then following the rest of the steps in multiplying fractions. We continued to increase our skills by doing the 60 Second Sweep (now 50 Seconds), Buzz, and Mental Math.
We also developed our collaborative skills by learning the Design Process in our science class. We did this by doing a science lab that required each group to design and build a paper tower that would be the tallest from the rest. Students had ten minutes to build it using 15 color papers and 3 feet of tape.
Overall, we had an excellent first week of the triemester and have much to look forward to for the coming weeks!
